What is a risky or catch-all email?
A risky or catch-all email is an email address that may cause issues for email deliverability or engagement. Catch-all emails are set up to receive all messages sent to a domain, even if the specific address doesn’t exist (e.g., anything@company.com gets delivered). Risky emails can also include temporary, invalid, spam-trap, or role-based addresses (e.g., info@company.com).
The Problems:
- High Bounce Rates: Catch-all servers may accept emails initially but later bounce them if the address is invalid, damaging your sender reputation.
- Spam Complaints: Risky emails, such as spam traps or disposable addresses, can lead to complaints and reduce inbox placement.
- Low Engagement: These addresses are often unmonitored or used by multiple people, resulting in poor open and response rates.
- Wasted Effort: Sending to risky emails wastes resources and rarely generates meaningful responses or leads.
